Membership

“For just as the body is one and has many members...all the members of the body, though many, are one body. Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.” (1Cor. 12:12, 27)

What is Membership?

Membership is obeying the New Testament call to live as an accountable member of a larger family/body: “For just as the body is one and has many members...all the members of the body, though many, are one body. Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.” (1 Cor. 12:12, 27). Membership is first and foremost the covenant between Jesus Christ and his body, the universal church - that is, the people of God. This covenant is made manifest in the commitment between an individual and the local body of Quicksilver Church.

Another metaphor of the local church is of an embassy. An embassy is an institution that represents one nation inside another nation. It declares the home nation’s interests to the host nation. If Jesus’ authority reigns supreme over every governing authority and manifests itself through the local church, then a local church is a real-life outpost of heaven, set in the present, that represents Christ’s future kingdom and his coming universal church. Membership is one’s affiliation with an embassy.
